The work tells the story of the feud between the Wei family and the Gu family for four generations, a history of more than a hundred years, which truly depicts the customs of the northern part of the country. Through the emotional entanglements between the men of the Gu family and the women of the Wei family, the novel expresses people's ardent pursuit of beautiful love and unyielding struggle against fate.
